The Yankee Flyers Dog & Disc Club will be sponsoring the 2003 USDDN Eastern
Nationals Qualifier on Saturday 8/2 (rain date 8/3) at a new site this year.
The event was moved from Durham, CT due to problems securing an adequate field
space. The new location will be at Kelly Middle School Field located on
Mahan Dr in Norwich, CT. I have run disc dog events at this field for over
20 years and it is one of the best! We may run 2 fields at this event
because there is so much room. Registration will be at 9 am and the
competition will get underway at 10 am. Directions to the event are as follows:
Kelly Middle School - Norwich, CT - Directions
The best landmarks to look for are the signs for Three Rivers Community College
Mohegan Campus. It is located on Mahan Dr next to Kelly Middle School.
Route 395 is the best way to get to the site, from the North or from the South,
and then onto Route 2 East. If you are coming from the North heading South
on Route 395 take Exit 81. If you are coming from the South heading North
on Route 395 take Exit 81E. From the West you need to get on Route 2 East.
If you are coming from Route 95 South from Mass or RI take the Exit onto Route
32 North in New London, CT and follow North just a few miles to the entrance
onto Route 395 North.
Once you enter onto Route 2 East off Route 395 (or pass over Route 395 if you
are already on Route 2 East) go 1 mile to the end of the Expressway. As
you near the end of the Expressway portion of Route 2 keep to the left, but in
the middle lane. At that light at the end of Route 2 you will go straight
across onto Route 169 (also called Harland Rd). Travel up the hill about
6/10 of a mile to the first traffic light. At that light take a right onto
Ox Hill Rd. On Ox Hill Rd go 3/10 of a mile and take your first right onto
Mahan Dr. You will pass in front of Three Rivers Community College.
It will be 3/10 of a mile to the event site at Kelly Middle School once you turn
onto Mahan Dr. You will see the field on the right just after the school.
Parking is directly after the field on the right.
More info will be posted about this event
and the correct listing is on the USDDN web site of
www.discdog.org . Please visit that site for guidelines for this one
in a series of National qualifiers. Awards will be given to the top 3
competing teams in each division. There will be 3 Toss & Fetch divisions
(Junior, Novice, Pro) and 2 Freestyle divisions (Open and Super Open). The
top 5 Freestyle teams that have not already qualified for the USDDN Nationals
Weekend (November 15 & 16 in Louisville, KY) will win a qualifying spot for that
Nationals event.
Hope to see you there! If there are any questions please contact me at
