The
Yankee Flyers Dog and Disc Club will be sponsoring a UFO Major event again this
year but at a new and exciting location. The UFO Major, The Irv Lander
Memorial Canine Disc Championships, will be held on Saturday, July 26th at
Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury, CT! Registration will begin at 9 am
and the competition will start at 10 am. Directions and a map to the park
can be found at the parks web site of
www.Quassy.com or send a request to this email and I will send it in Word
format without the map. This event will follow UFO Rules and Guidelines
that can be found at
http://www.ufoworldcup.org/Guidelines.html. Also, Discovering the
World is once again doing the 200-disc raffle with the UFO. ALL entries at UFO
Majors-every division, every team, will earn that team an entry into the raffle.
The winner, which will be announced at the end of the season, will be randomly
selected from all the entries. Multiple entries by a team into more than
one Major will get them multiple entries into the raffle. The winner gets 200
custom stamped discs from Discovering the World-Custom as in their own design.
Sponsoring the UFO at this event is Royal Canin petfoods.
This new site, Quassy Amusement Park, is in
the heart of Connecticut's "Gold Coast" so Hotel prices are a bit high. A
block of rooms has been reserved at the Hilton Hotel in Southbury, CT which is
located less than 5 miles from the event site. Rooms will be listed under
UFO Canine Disc and the special price is, brace yourself, $79 for a room with a
King size bed. Their tel # is 203-598-7600. They are a full service
hotel with a restaurant and all their rooms have been newly refurbished. I
only reserved 10 rooms because of the price and they will be available until
7/18 at that price. If the rooms run out let me know and I can reserve
more. I reserved for Friday 7/25 only because I only know of one person in
discdogdom that could afford those prices. The Holiday inn in Danbury, CT
will have rooms available for $84. If you are flying into Bradley Airport
(BDL) which is just north of Hartford, rooms are more affordable at the Red Roof
Inn #212 (860-724-0222) on Weston Rd in Hartford, just 13 miles from the
airport. Rates are about $61 and up. It is just off rte 91 and an exit or
2 away from Rte 84. From the Red Roof you can go on Rte 84 Westbound and
Quassy will be 30 to 45 minutes away depending on traffic.
I know the Quassy people are very excited
to have this event there and have been promoting it since they've opened.
There can be a large crowd of spectators expected throughout the day and I know
they are in for a real exciting time of seeing some of the top teams! ESPN
is located close to the event and the people at Quassy said that they are
interested! I don't know definitely if they will show but it is in their
own back yard!
Hope to see you there! If there are
any questions contact me at this email address - YankeeFlyersDDC@aol.com
Thanks!
